Traumatic Brain Injury (Concussion) Therapy
Retraining the brain after trauma.
Evaluating your post-concussion condition
After an evaluation, the Doctor and Therapist will develop a recovery plan designed to address the specific symptoms and deficiencies resulting from injury.
Concussions often result in debilitating symptoms including headaches, decreased concentration, light sensitivity, dizziness, fatigue, nausea, and more. These symptoms can be so overwhelming it may feel impossible to engage in the recovery process
Treatment plans are individually tailored based on your injury type and severity to maximize recovery and prevent future incidents.
According to the Consensus Statement on Concussion in Sport, children should not return to sports until clinically completely symptom free. (4th International Conference on Concussion in Sport, Zurich, 2012).
Our Doctors and Therapists have advanced training in visual and vestibular rehabilitation, including balance and coordination training, Sanet Vision Integrator, the Vision Therapy Systems 4, and Fit Light System, as well as sensory integration techniques, all of which offer accelerated therapeutic benefits.
Each patient is evaluated by one of our Doctors of neuro-optometry and receives a customized treatment plan addressing the wide variety of concussion symptoms and complications that frequently follow a head injury. Our goal is to get you back to your previous life, safely and symptom free.
Vision Therapists play a key role in the treatment and management of an individual, following a concussion. Our VT’s focus on visual and cognitive re-education and training, along with sensory, vestibular and balance integration, and are able to provide treatments needed to get back to an active life.
Whether its return to play, return to learn or return to work, our team of Doctors and Therapists have the training and experience needed for a successful recovery.
Visual and Vestibular Rehabilitation
The first step to successful visual and/or vestibular rehab is to correctly identify the source of the problem so that it can be treated appropriately. Disturbance within the visual and vestibular systems can cause challenges with balance, coordination and visual motor control, and have symptoms of dizziness, vertigo, visual disturbance, fuzzy thinking, headache, nausea and vomiting.
Visual and Vestibular rehabilitation involves special treatments and exercises designed to restore the visual and vestibular system’s connection to the brain improving balance, coordination and visual motor endurance.
Sanet Vision Integrator
The Sanet Vision Integrator is a training tool that measures and trains an individual’s reaction to visual stimulus, visual cognition, peripheral awareness, eye-hand coordination and visual reaction time. The individual sees a designed target, reacts by hitting the target using visual, motor, cognition and attention, and auditory stimulus, training multiple senses through an integrated method.
Fit Light Trainer
Fit Light Trainer uses light discs to evaluate, train and measure visual and motor response times. The light discs can be placed in unlimited positions, adjusted in color, size, duration and sound to promote a more explosive, quicker whole-body reaction.
The Fit Light incorporates speed, agility, reaction time, cognition, sound, and, center and peripheral visual responses.
This is an extremely helpful tool for everyone; from developing children, patients recovering from traumatic brain injuries such as a concussion or strokes, or professional athletes working hard to get back into the game.
